The concept of streetwear was born out of a human reaction to the wounds of growing up in the urban environment:
poverty, disenfranchisement, trauma, domestic violence, divorce, neglect, abuse, mental health issues, drug dependency, racism, issues of sexuality, gender, class, religion and ethnicity, and other systematic forms of oppression and discrimination.
The experience of powerlessness and disadvantage, the awareness of identity (or the multiple intersecting identities that define our individual sense of selfhood), led to physical manifestations of imagination and creativity - a form of post-traumatic response - triggered by the environment of the oppressed...
